Bill Martell’s article “Blockbuster Brilliance”

In the September / October SCRIPT mag, Bill Martell has an article (near the end) called “Blockbuster Brilliance.”
The article, directed towards screenwriters, starts off by saying that, although movies like Avatar, Titanic, and Transformers 2 are panned by screenwriters, we should look at what they’re doing that makes them so financially successful.
Bill says “you make [...]

Couldn’t-a said it better.

Sometimes, you hear a pitch of a concept and you go “aw, c’mon. Really?”
What almost always twists my spine is the thought “they’re making THAT crap instead of making BETTER crap.”  Only so many movies can be made a year and only ONE THING motivates a studio to make a movie: PROFIT.
Everything else is secondary. [...]

fade the f*ck out

Almost exactly 5 weeks after I FADED RIGHT THE F*CK IN, I, indeed, FADED RIGHT THE F*CK OUT!
Caps and all.
Version one of Untitled Space Thriller was done sometime on 8/11/10, around 7:45 my time. Not that it’s a race, but it’s also interesting to track the amount of time it takes to get something done. [...]

Jonah Hex

Look. Truthfully. Comic book films, or whatever you want to call them, are not my cup of tea. My main reasoning (although there are MANY reasons) is that they take from, what could be, a more diverse slate of original programming.
Did we really need Daredevil? Did we really need Aeon Flux? Catwoman? Please. Really.
No. A [...]

Studios crack the whip on script deadlines.

I’m lucky that I have a full time job and make a fair wage. Especially while I chase a dream. A lot of writers have a tough time. Even the really good ones.
Here’s an interesting article over at Deadline Hollywood. The comments are worth a read. Some salty language.

All You Need Is… Concept

Recently, the spec script ALL YOU NEED IS KILL sold for “the low seven figures.” Allow me to translate: TWO MEELION DOLLARS!

If you haven’t read the script, let me give you the quick run-down:
A soldier fighting a future war dies while fighting THE battle to save the earth. He then awakens, doomed to live the [...]

What do you get when you take 11 writers…

Really interesting story about the script-to-screen trip for THE A-TEAM HERE on Deadline Hollywood.
Heads-up. Contains some salty language.

Trust me. You won’t be re-written.

This is an insane business. IN-SANE.
Robin Hood opened to mediocre numbers. Especially mediocre given the enormo budget (230M, some report). Apparently, it’s supposed to make up for its lackluster domestic BO with some gonzo world-wide numbers. As of this writing, six days into its run, the tally is 45M domestic, 75M international.
According to NY Mag, [...]

What’s a UTA?

Team Mark has expanded.
Joining Alexander Robb of Insignia Entertainment (my manager) are the fine fellas from UTA for agency representation.
I’m excited by the dynamic and by the doors that will open because of UTA.

“… Jose Feliciano, ya got no complaints.”
Good news all around. Exciting times.
More details coming.
Not in the industry and wondering what this means? [...]

Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee!

I’ve been asked to do a take on the remake of THE BIRDS. Basically, 3 – 5 pages — the plot, characters, setting, why it would be cool.
Yep, they’re gonna remake it.

I’ve seen THE BIRDS about… oh, five times. My mom always used to rave about it. Crazy scary, she’d say. And it was HIGHLY [...]
