Only the first 10 pages? I was just getting a feel for it! A few comments about the church of Christ. Was this denomination chosen for some reason? They don’t have pastors, altars, cross themselves, or go to seminary. If you need those bits, you’ll need to go with the Lutherans. The Baptists have pastors and go to seminary, but don’t cross themselves. I’m not sure they’d call their chancel area an altar. The church of Christ I know from many years of experience. The Lutherans and Baptists I have only a nodding acquintance with.

Don’t overthink it! Maybe all the answers are in the next 100 pages.
I didn’t choose the denomination… or most of the churchy stuff. That was done by some other church type person. So if it’s inaccurate, I’m blissfully unaware.
Besides, you should know that it’s really about the journey, all the side roads are minor details.

Well, I admit to succumbing to the “This is my field and while no one else will notice, it sticks out like a sore thumb to me” syndrome. But, I didn’t have much else to analyze in a mere 10 pages.
I’m inferring from those pages that it is young Pastor Haulston who will be taking the journey. I admit, I’m hooked. How many times will I have to cover my eyes for the gory bits?
June 22nd, 2009 at 8:37 amWell, the town, which is doomed in so many ways, has characters that represent the 7 deadly sins. Haulston, at the center of the story, represents envy.
The Disciple comes, is met with doubt, but has crucial information about the location of a missing boy (maybe).
With the town running out of time, they turn to The Disciple to lead them to the boy, and during that journey, the characters redeem themselves.
No gore.
Maybe a tear or two.
At least, it made me cry.
June 22nd, 2009 at 6:54 pmDoh! Janis was right! She was looking at an early version of the first 10 pages. It had already been corrected by my more astute partners but I had the uncorrected version up.
The new version corrects the errors that Janis pointed out.
My bad!
